Change a Light, Change the World campaign
New York Interfaith Power & Light and congregations around the country are participating in EnergyStar's annual Change a Light, Change the World campaign.
The official kick-off for this national campaign is always the first Wednesday in October, and the campaign runs from October through November. Be looking for sales on CFLs in local stores during this time.
Help NY IP&L reach our goal
Encourage your congregants to take the Pledge - the Pledge to replace one or more of their old-fashioned incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents. Here are two ways you can do this:
- Individuals in your congregation can go online, selecting New York Interfaith Power & Light as their "referring organization."
- Members can sign the Pledge at congregational events and then you can send the list of pledges back to Energy Star. Here's the information:
- Here's a .pdf sign up sheet you can print out (or if you're ambitious, you can fill in an Excel spreadsheet)
- Just email these to Energy Star, or mail them to:

ENERGY STAR Programs Hotline & Distribution (MS-6202J)
1200 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington, DC 20460 - Make sure you let us know how many pledges your congregation made (see below)!
Here's how your congregation can participate
Here's some information about this campaign, tailored for congregations. Here are a few of these suggestions from this information sheet:
- Incorporate the campaign's call-to-action into a sermon about environmental stewardshi
- Drive pledges via bulletin, newsletter, Web site, events & outreach
- Incorporate a message and/or activity into lessons and the youth group
- Report to members the difference their commitment is making
Be Recognized!
After sending in the pledges, let us know how many people in your congregation took the pledge AND what percentage of your congregation it represents. For example, if you gathered 10 pledges and your congregation has 100 households, that's 10%. If your congregation has 1000 households, that's 1%.
We'll recognize all participating congregations here and in our newsletter, but will give special recognition to the 5 congregations with the highest percentage of pledges.
