Mon. July 26, 2010 at 6:30 pm |
Liverpool Library |
A free showing of A Chemical Reaction. This is an award-winning film that tells the true story of how citizens in one small town in Ontario became concerned about lawn pesticides and how their actions ultimately led to the entire province of Ontario banning the aesthetic use of lawn pesticides. If you are not aware of the potential dangers of lawn pesticides this is a film you should see. Following the film, there will be a short presentation on how you can have a pesticide-free lawn. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by Habitat Gardening in Central New York |
Wed. July 14, 2010 at 6:30 pm |

Sat. Aug. 7, 2010 at 9:00 am |
John's Garden (Directions to the Allens) followed by Allie's garden at 10:30 am. She lives at 217 Woodland Road, which is about 3/4 mile from the Allen residence. [Woodland Road can be reached by taking Terry Road south from W. Genesee Street (Terry is a short distance east of Fairmount Fair), then turning right on Fern and left on Woodland Rd.] |
On this day you could visit both the Allen vegetable garden and Allie's garden, or one, or the other. |
| IF YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO HAVE PEOPLE VISIT YOUR GARDEN, please let me know and I will send that information out. Or, if you have some garden problems for which you are seeking answers, let me know. There are some in the group willing to come and help. | ||

| Saturday September 26, 2009 at 2:00 pm | Liverpool Public Library in the Sargent Meeting Room | We'll discuss two topics: (1) successes and failures this year and (2) cover crops. Successes and failures will consist of those present reporting on how this gardening season went. This is not only a good time for those who gardened to compare notes with others (it is always reassuring to know that many other people had the same problems you did) but also for those who haven't gardened but plan to next year. A lot of useful information is exchanged. The discussion on cover crops will talk about what gardeners can do this year to protect, increase the fertility of, and improve their soil by planting such things as clover, rye, oats. [It is something I have only started doing recently.] Free and open to the public! |
| Saturday October 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm | Liverpool Public Library in the Sargent Meeting Room | Garden Pests: We'll discuss the pest problems we had this year - slugs, groundhogs, rabbits, deer, Japanese beetles, etc. - and ways we have found to diminish the problem. We may also talk about inexpensive methods of growing vegetables vertically. Free and open to the public! |
| Saturday November 28, 2009 at 2:00 pm | Liverpool Public Library in the large Carman Meeting Room | Thinking about Next Year: We'll talk about such things as how to start seeds indoors, where to get seeds (bring your favorite seed catalogs!), what vegetables are easiest to grow, what we might change next year as a result of this year's experience, and any other thoughts you have about making next year your best year yet! Free and open to the public! |
